Registering a new vehicle or one imported from abroad is a prerequisite for driving it on public roads. You must register your vehicle and affix license plates before you can drive any motor vehicle, including trailers and semi-trailers with a maximum authorized mass exceeding 750 kilograms.
Before registering a Personal Mobility Vehicle (PMV) in your name, the PMV must have a circulation certificate issued by a laboratory authorized by the DGT (Spanish Directorate General of Traffic). However, as an exception, it will be possible to temporarily register an PMV that is not certified. In this case, the certificate will only be valid for circulation until January 22, 2027 .
You can complete the process to generate a license plate number for your vehicle, and we will provide you with a registration certificate, which will serve as proof of ownership to any government agency. You can also purchase a registration sticker with the license plate number to affix to your personal mobility vehicle (PMV) as a license plate.
A historic vehicle is one that, due to its age of at least 30 years, interest or uniqueness, deserves special consideration that protects its representative and symbolic character, thus safeguarding the cultural heritage of our time and allowing its use with the appropriate technical and mechanical safety.
From 1/10/2024, the new regulations for historic vehicles establish two classification procedures for historic vehicles: one that could be called "abbreviated", which can be used by those vehicles registered in Spain that are at least 30 years old, are in circulation and have their ITV in force (Group A) , and another procedure to which those vehicles that do not meet these requirements must be subjected, which will be somewhat more complex (Group B) .
A vehicle can be classified as a historic vehicle as long as it meets the required criteria. Similarly, a vehicle that has been classified as historic can revert to its original status as an ordinary vehicle .
If your vehicle has an old-style license plate AidIf you have a province abbreviation different from the province where you are registered, you can request a new format registration .
You can apply for temporary license plates to drive your vehicle while its final registration is being processed. These plates, green for private vehicles, are associated with temporary driving permits that allow you to drive, for example, for the use and/or transport of imported foreign vehicles or vehicles that have been deregistered for export to third countries.
